Gopchang Story BBQ - Manhattan
This place has become quite the contentious topic between my friend and I. He just started working in the city and so he's been trying new things. He tried this place a few days before he brought me here and became a fanatic. He was madly in love, strongly endorsing it, saying, "You MUST GO with me!" One day after work we went, and ... it did not bode well. Not even just for me, but for him too! When he came here the first time he got the assorted platter of meats. This time, he chose the mala. Based on what the server said (not to ascertain blame), he said it's just a "spicer" version. It was a different, spicier version but also, only had TWO out of the FIVE meats. And those meats were just not my thing. Before we had went I expressed my concerns saying I dislike the chewy consistency, and he told me "don't worry this is crunchy". But noooooo, this is the exact thing I tried before (a couple years backs) and it was chewy, not crunchy intenstine. I think it was the small intenstine / entrail? I'm unsure but, it was not yummy. What was yummy was the other non-meat parts of the mala platter, I actually quite liked that. We got a small assorted after and yeah I pretty much didn't like anything except for the stomach lining (I think that's what it was), cause that was crunchy. Yeah, overall, I didn't enjoy this food. I am famously not a picky eater, but the chewy consistency I just don't like. I do think the idea of the intestine stuff is a bit gross too but if it was a good consistency, structure, flavor, I think I could get by! So I'd like to try intestines (Korean gopchang) some other time but, not anytime soon haha.
